Evaluation of Finished Work

Question 3

IM GONNA DO THIS QUESTION SOON, I SWEAR!

Evaluation Of Finished Production Work

Question 3; How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

In order to create all my coursework pieces it was necessary for me to use a variety of different technologies for the different stage of the preparation;

The first piece of technology i and my group were introduced to first was the college JVC cameras, these cameras help us create our actual music video. We as a class once again similar to last year had a class tutorial in which Marissa the college media department technician came in to go over the health and safety and also teach us how to place the camera on the tripod, insert the memory cards, place the camera into focus and how to keep the camera safe.

For some of our Video Clips in which we explain certain questions, we used a Flip Cam and uploaded the video straight to Blogger using the Blogger upload tool.

The second and the most crucial technology we as a class used was the internet, from the internet we were introduced to Blogger, Out of all the technology used it is blogger via internet that we used the most. Blogger was used for all aspects of the creation of the music video, digipak and advert. We used blogger for research, planning, production and evaluation.  Below is a presentation on how to operate blogger.

Another technology via the internet we used is Youtube which was an important factor in producing evidence for our own individual thoughts, we used videos from Youtube to present new ideas that we believed would work in our video . Below is a mini video that i produced using windows movie maker showing how youtube was used.

In order to present my blogs effectively it was necessary for me to create gifs, slide shows and scrapbooks, which were all created using either Smilebox, Photobucket or Picasion.com.via the internet. Below is the link to both Smilebox and Photobucket.

Below are screen grabs showing how i used Picasion.com to create gifs.

Firstly i typed in Make a gif in the google search tab.
Which then brang up a list of all the webpages where gifs are possible to be made.

Upon clicking on the picasion website link i was introduced to the above web page where it became pretty simple.

The simple tabs above which read choose file is what i next clicked on, which upon clicking on you are directed to your computer files

As you can see whilst able to locate your images or screen shots you are able to upload them on to Picasion, all that remains now is to publish you gif.

Before publishing your gif you need to choose the size and speed you want it to run at

When you believe your all done you need to click on the tab below which previews your gif and allows you to save publish and post it.

Below is a gif created using the above screen grabs.

 Final cut is a fascinating and much helpful technology that was used during the editing of my and my group music video, Final cut is a application on apple mac which allowed us as a group copy, cut and paste separate images and create a whole 3-4 min video. Below is a a final cut tutorial video from youtube demonstrating how to use it and all its elements.

Creating an animatic to gain visual insights as to what we as a group will like to get a  hold off in our actual video, we used the college still cameras.

Using the camera we took vaious images such as the ones below;

We later used these images to create a short video clip using final cut; which you can view upon clicking on the below URL;

Last but not least, recently we as a class were introduced to the Green screen, which by using we initially decided to incorporate the images taken infront of the screen in our digipak. Below is a image of Ayo our main artist whose picture in regards to the digipak was taken in front of the green screen. Unfortunately you can not actually see the green screen as these images are sfter being edited using the screen, the most crucial reason why people decide to take shots behind the green screen is so that the are able to cut the background behind a picture, as you can see below this is what we have done.

Below are images of us fiddling with the images taken using the screen and observing whether they work well as images for the digipak.

EVALUATION: How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

How did you use the media
technologies in the construction and research,
planning and evaluation stages?

Above are two screen recordings formatted through QuickTime Media Player showing examples of how technology was used and executed throughout the production of my music video. The video's above show how to use the chroma keying effect in Final Cut Pro - a technique essential for our video as a lot of graphics were used to add the final touch to our product. Including Japanese word art and an "MTV" logo. The video above demonstrates how I achieved the green screen chroma keying effect using FCP technology.

Technology had to be used and incorporated throughout the WHOLE of my media project - the video above goes some way to demonstrating how I used a programme called FontCase for my ancillary products. The video above just the like the two videos previous are screen recordings of me during the editing process constructing these particular things using state-of-the-art technology. This video in particular shows how I was able to utilise both FontCase and another photo technology manipulator and construction software programme PhotoShop.

PhotoShop was the primary technological programme used to create my ancillary product and the screen recording/casting above should go some way of explaining how I explored with fonts and layers and colours during the production stage of my ancillary product.

This final video above should go the most way to demonstrating and explaining and also highlighting the various converging of media mediums needed to create our final music video. Using Final Cut Pro - I have edited a completely new edit of our music video aided with a technological breakdown of the various technologies used and incorporated in our final music video covering all stages form construction to editing and producing the video.

Lastly I would also like to highlight the importance that the technology of Blogger throughout the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages had on our project. Blogger as a site is a convergence hub allowing me to incorporate videos, images, slideshows and audio recordings into one place to effectively demonstrate and showcase my A2 media blog. The site is compatible with an array of formats - which allowed me to not limit the various ways in which I could show you my work and its incorporation with text input - allowed me to go into detail - Blogger is the effectively the best convergent internet device to allow me to do this.

Question 2

The fact that our album is similar to our video is shown through many ways.

If a fan was to watch our music video, they'd easily be able to link the album with the video because they are both in the same environment. The viewer can clearly see that Ayo is wearing the same bowler hat and the has the same building behind him as shown in the chorus of our video.

The font is also inspired because of the song. The fact that the font is smooth and curvy, reflects the smooth nature of our song itself.

 A screenshot from the chorus of our music video

The actual digipak

The colour of the font (dark orange), was done because the background image contained the colour of orange because of the street lights in the distance. Due to this reason i wanted to emulate the same tone of colour in order to create a sort of motif.

The font style of this digipak was all set the same. I used a smooth font throughout the album cover and advert in order to portray our character as a smooth and shady character. This is also emphasised though the fact that the images for both Album and Advert was taken at night, with darkness having connotations of mystery and uncertainty.

After doing some research, i found out that famous and successful videos have similarities between the artist in the video and the way the artist looks in their album cover.

The album cover for the album by Katy Perry entitled 'T.G.I.F' is majorly similar to the way she looks in her music video 'Last friday night', as shown below...

This meant that i had to have some sort of house-style theme with both my video and digipak in order to help the buyer establish and recognise who the artist is after watching the music video.

The same font of (Caviar Dreams) which was created through the font making program on the mac named 'FontScape'. The exact same font was used on the Advert and Album. However, I used the 'Andes' font to name the artist in the advert. This is because I wanted to create a stylish and sort of mature connotations of our artist, Ayo. The font size used for the name of the artist on both Album and Advert is the size 60. This large font size was used in order to bring to attention the artists name as bring more recognition to the artist as he is a new debut artist.

The above is my Album inside cover, compared to Lil Wayne's back cover. The idea i took from Lil Wayne's album is the use of the 3 bars which creates an artistic style of imagery. I also continued my house-style theme by using the same 'Caviar Dreams' font from fontcase, and by using the same Dark Orange colour for the font.

Question 2)

How effective is the combination of your main product (video) and ancillary texts (digipak and advertisement)

For my A2 media coursework it was necessary alongside with creating a music video to create a digipak and advert.

Before starting the production of both my ancillary products it was necessary to research using the help of Google and Wikipedia,the style and genre i would like to follow,

Using  both Google and Wikipedia i browsed digipak's of;

 gif maker online

I also similar to researching digipacks researched using Google magazine adverts

After researching and browsing the above adverts, i realised likewise to digipaks magazine adverts also incorporated the artists image, name, song titles and CD release date.

I found influence from the above magazine advertisements which play a crucial pert in my advert creation i found that these adverts very good as they cover all the conventions of ancillary products,Everything is in place, as it all seems to link in and therefore connects with each aspect. The font is clear and really goes with the artist and genre and all pictures are in focus. Another important aspect i really liked of these adverts is how they link to their actual style of music.

As you can see from watching this video and comparing it to Bubles advert you can see their is the same dress sense, antique use of colours and elegant props.

From Sean Paul's video above you can see a visual link between it and the advert where there is the frequent use of neon lights and bling.

Keeping in mind of all the above i tried to replicate what the above artist have done by trying my best to match my video with the digipak and advert.

Below is the music video both i and my group produced

Jerome, Ayub, Sayf, Mohammed from 283goswell on Vimeo.

As you can see above is a screen grab of my official digipak.

Below is a screen grab of the advert created in regards to promoting the music video produced.

Above is a A3 poster i have created using Photo shop element where i have in correspondence tried to layout what main three things are visual throughout

After closely watching all four items created above, targeted at a target audience of teenagers and young adults you should be able to see that i have keeping in mind my target audience and the main product have created a digipak and advert that uses the same font colour, Orange, yellow and white, same font style and size Georgia, regular, 12pt, same images of artist and use of text in Japanese writing. I personally believe that by including all of the above my target audience of young adults and teenagers will be able to easily recognise that my products follow a consistent style making them able to recognise that the above digipak and advert belongs to my music video.
