THE BIG FOUR
The Big Four Record Labels are Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, EMI Group and Warner Music Group - they all fall under separate conglomerates.
In 2004 there was a "big five" but in 2008 - Sony bought out the 50% that BMG music owned.
As early as 1996, there was a "big 6" but convergence saw MCA and Polygram absorbed into Universal Music Group.
