Andrew Goodwins theory
Our music video consists of a chorus/verse/chorus structure. We try to distinguish the singer by using 2 contrasting techniques in singing. Ayo, our singer, has a voice which is calm and serene, whereas the actual video is full of party scenes and scenes of a fast nature through the use of numerous jump cuts. This use of contrasting features singles out the singer and makes him unique to the whole video itself, thus drawing more recognition to the artist.
Our music video is a form of amplification because the singer is not singing about what is actually happening in the music video. In our video, Ayo is singing about fallin. Although we do not actually know what he means by 'falling', the visuals in our video helps the viewer to draw their own conclusion as to what is meant by Ayo when he says he's falling.
Our artist is given a lot of camera time. The use of multiple face shots and close-up shots helps get his face more recognised, it also helps the viewer put an image to the song, which will then perhaps stay in their minds and in turn help when they buy the artists album.
Our music video is full of Voyeurism, this is because it will appeal more to males. Laura Mulvey's theory about females being portrayed as sex items, are coincidentally emphasised in our video through the use of the actors in our video wearing revealing clothes and behaving in a 'seductive' manner.
We attempted to use some intertextuality by making our house party similar to that of Channel 4's drama 'Skins'.
The fact that the singer in our video looks directly into the camera, helps build a rapport with the viewer as he is 'breaking the 3rd wall' by using direct address.
Carol Vernallis' theory of creating a 'Phantasmagorical body' is illustrated through the use of showing only attractive body oarts such as legs, bum and boobs. This means that an illusion of a perfect body is created through the viewer drawing out only attractive features and leaving out less un-attractive body parts such as elbows and toes.
We tried to do a motif for our video through the use of Japanese writing on our video. This sets up the definition of our album name, 'A night in Tokyo'.
The editing in this video is definitely been made to be really obvious which draws more attention to Ayo our artist. They use lots of obvious graphics there are extreme changes in location and time, fancy cuts and jump cuts. The editing does match the musical phrases and beat at the start the editing is slower then quickens with the pace of the music. The video is cut in time to the beat and example of this is when there is a lot of quick beats the video cuts in time to them swapping to different locations. There are lots of close ups and extreme close ups of mainly the artists face and the females body and face in order to portray facial expressions and emotions. The style and framing does run throughout the video its very obvious and quirky. The camera moves in time with both the music and the lyrics in order to retain a consistant beat and visuals to the audio. There are master shots of Ayo used frequently throughout the chorus in order to draw recognition.
Digipak
I had originally thought of centering my artist in the middle of the of the front cover looking down with an expressionless face, this was an idea I obtained from Mike Posners Single cover 'Cooler than me'
Also for my back cover, i intend to show my artist sitting on a chair and looking down to the ground, with the track-listings opposite him, this would carry on my style in which the artist looks depressed. This idea was given to me from Lil Wayne's 'Carter III' album back cover.
Also what inspired me was the fact that the track number is in one colour, and the track name is another colour. This i believed was an effective way of differentiating the the name of the track from the number, thus avoiding any confusing by mixing them both up.
Due to the fact that Ayo is an Soul-Pop artist, I took a picture of him with formal clothing and scenic pictures. This follows the normal convention of males being portrayed in a non sexualised way as females would have been. The calm nature of the song reflects the calm scenic views shown on the digipak.
