Researching Ancillary Products: Summary of class discussion around the importance and function of digipaks to the music industry
After completing our compulsory music video for A2 studies - we moved on to the analysis and research of ancillary products - or secondary products attributed with the release of the main single/album.
The first point of questioning with regards to ancillary products were: What is the importance and function of digipak's to the music industry?
What is a digipak?
"A modern approach to CD/DVD packaging". Digipacks are more than likely a deluxe edition of a release - a special edition. Digipaks are usually made of thick cardboard and most importantly and distinctively have "sophisticated graphics that can run across all of the panels establishing a graphic theme."
Why are digipak's important?
Digipaks are important to the music industry because they provide another avenue to promote an artist - allowing the image of the artist to be more indulged and expressed through in a singular product as a opposed to just a normal CD single or album release for example.
