Digipaks are similar to CD covers, yet they are different...how you may ask? Well, digipaks consists of 3 or more panels, rather than the 2 panel design as used for CD covers. The use of the 3 panel fold for digipaks means that more can be included with the original CD. A typical digipak uses the 3 or more panel design to its advantage, this means that a lyrics booklet, or an additional DVD about the artist can be included to accompany the CD. Furthermore, digipaks usually has more advanced and more eye-pleasing visuals. The downside to digipaks however, is that they are usually more expensive than a typical CD or album, this is because of all the additional features which are included. Typical buyers of digipaks are big fans of the artist and they are the people who will spend the extra few pounds to obtain just that little bit more of their favorite artist.
Why are digipaks so important for the music industry?
Due to the fact that digipaks costs more than your average album, obviously digipaks are important to the artist as it gains them more money. Digipaks are also important to the music industry as its a fresher and more appealing which persuade listeners to buy physical copies of artists songs and albums. This in turn helps reduce the global blackhole which is swallowing up all the music industries money, otherwise known as PIRACY :o
