Reflect on the new skills you have learnt on the completion of the lip synch tutorial;
Before creating a Digipak, i and my group were required to undergone a lip synch tutorial which was crucial to be able to operate for the creation of our coursework (making a music video).
Before creating our own lip synch music video we used Final Cut Pro, and a music video of a ex band. We were asked to listen to their creation and edit their music video by layering the Base track first and bringing down various shots from the music video into the work area (In FCP), trying our best to align the singer’s lip movement to the actual music playing. For example, we picked a word from the lyrics e.g. “they”, then we had to watch the video of the various shots available and get the same word and align it with the Base track. Using the main song as the lead, we were told to follow the beat of the song and make a mark by tapping the letter M on the Keyboard. This is to ensure that a variety of shots are used in the music video.
After making marks of the fourth beat (in the case of this song), we deleted some shots (excluding the base track) and left some to make sure that various shots will be appearing in the music video every fourth beat. The skill was quite easy to develop, as it only needed sever concentration and listening.
After being able to complete this tutorial we as a group were assigned to individual music tracks/songs. We as a group were asked to lip synch to Aretha Franklins ‘Respect’ which we would later on have to create a music video for. In order to create our music video we had to record ourselves lip synching to the entire song in various angles, lighting and if possible locations.
After completing the recording of the lip synch we as a group created our music video incorporating everything we learnt listed above.
At first it was a bit tricky getting the hang of all the functions that were available but as they say ‘practice makes better’ and we as a group were able to successfully create our music video.
